La Venganza exists to define what “cruelty-free” means. As a culture we define veganism as the attack on animals, but we forget the human suffering that goes to pick our vegetables, and process the worlds meat. We are born and bred to disrupt the current narrative around factory farmed meats, immigrant labor, and losing the connection to what your grandma cooked.
Our Story
Raul Medina is a chef and owner of Taqueria La Venganza, a vegan taqueria in Oakland, California. He started his culinary journey six years ago with a pop-up on 15th and Harrison in downtown Oakland and has since made a name for himself in the food industry. In 2018, his restaurant won the title of “best taco in all of Los Angeles” at L.A. Taco’s “Taco Madness” competition, beating out real meat vs established taquerias. Medina’s vegan tacos have been praised for their authentic flavors and have been featured at Coachella, tropicalia and other music fesivals. He aims to bring his vegan meats to the national stage and become the Beyond Meat or Impossible Foods of the Mexican meat world. Medina hopes to create a more Latinx-centric business that offers delicious vegan meats that are profitable enough for every taqueria in the country to use. His vision is to have a taco truck on every corner that offers a full slate of vegan meats, including carnitas, carne asada, and chicharron
